Etching
from start
to finish.
In 1989, we began as an artisanal etching and painting studio and many of our etch artists have been there since those early days. Each bottle is hand etched and hand painted in quantities as low as a single bottle or up to 10,000 bottles across every format size from 375ml to 27L. As a cold process, we’re able to work on filled bottles, making etching a wonderful option for tasting room or special wine club offerings, restaurant and distributor promotions, auctions, or private collectors.
A Work of Art
Every bottle we’ve ever etched is done by hand and is a unique, one-of-a-kind collectors' piece.

Bottle Etching & Painting Process
Our etchers, many with over 20 years of experience, produce custom etched bottles, transforming your vision into detailed artwork. From mask creation to precision etching using a sandblasting method, each piece is finished with paint by hand. Throughout the process, each engraved bottle is carefully inspected at every stage to ensure the highest quality standards.
Craftsmanship in Every Bottle
We’ll take your label inspiration, be it your paper label designs, a cherished photo, or a piece of original art, and permanently etch it into the bottle itself. We fondly refer to our paint artists as “the best art forgers in the business,” as each bottle becomes a true one-of-a-kind work of art.
Custom Artwork Recreation
As one of the oldest and largest glass bottle etching companies on the West Coast, Bergin brings unmatched expertise to every project. You’ll work with a dedicated Account Manager and Production Artist who guide your etching program from start to finish, typically around four months, depending on order quantity. Bergin manages all logistics, ensuring bottles - filled or unfilled - arrive on time for production.

Hidden benefits of etching
A fully custom process from start to finish means no two bottles are ever the same. Each piece is crafted by hand to reflect your brand and story, resulting in a permanent, detail-driven finish.
Hand etching and painting transforms ordinary bottles into display-worthy collectibles, perfect for gifts, awards, and meaningful milestones.
Ideal for wine clubs, tasting rooms, and limited releases, etched bottles create a distinctive experience designed to stand out and stay with your customers.
Our process never exceeds 66°F, preserving product integrity. With a temperature-controlled etch and paint studio and a dedicated cold storage facility, we can work on your full bottles at any time.
Etching capabilities
Our most streamlined technique, using a single sandblast pass to expose the raw glass surface. Designs can be etched directly or revealed by blasting the background, allowing the natural glass to become part of the artwork. Often left as-is or filled with hand-applied paint, it’s a clean, versatile approach ideal for logos, typography, and simple graphics.
A multi-stage process that carves into the glass at varying depths, creating a more dimensional, sculpted effect. By layering etch levels, artwork gains contrast and presence without relying on the natural bottle surface. Best suited for bold imagery, emblems, and designs that call for a richer, more substantial finish.
Engineered for photographic accuracy, this method captures fine detail, gradients, and tonal range with precision. Where traditional etching leans more interpretively, photo etching is ideal for artwork that needs to stay true to the original image. Perfect for portraits, landscapes, and highly detailed compositions.
For personalization at scale. From individual names to sequential numbering, this process integrates custom details seamlessly into your design. Ideal for limited releases, collector editions, and programs that call for consistency with a one-of-a-kind touch.

In addition to wine bottles, we work with a wide variety of glass vessels, both standard, off-the-shelf items and fully custom-made pieces. This includes but isn’t limited to decanters, growlers, beer bottles, spirits bottles, jars, and other specialty glass containers. We can etch most glass vessels depending on size, shape, and glass type. We regularly work with customer-supplied bottles as well as custom-manufactured pieces.
Etching is a cold process, which allows us to work on a full product. This is because there is no heat application at any point in the process. Our etch studio is also temperature controlled allowing us to work on bottles any time of day. We will work on full bottles up to 6L in size. All sizes above 6L need to be brought to us empty due to liability and safety concerns.
Yes, we do. We reserve this for full products we work on in etching. We do not offer unlimited or indefinite cold storage.
No, they do not ever scan properly, if at all. If you require a barcode for an etched bottle, we strongly encourage you to plan on applying a barcode sticker.
